We're Here!

Well Derrick seemed to think that it was imperative that we have blog so here is the first attempt.  I'm more into just posting pictures, but this will give me another outlet for sharing photos without flooding your facebook walls.  And if these first few days are any indication, there will be lots and lots of pictures!

Tuesday was an Italian holiday (May Day) so we drove down to the town of Lecco where we hope to find an apartment.  Lecco is about 30 minutes from Colico where Derrick will work, but its much larger than Colico which is more of a village than a town.  It was raining Tuesday morning, so we headed to the small indoor mall which also houses the main grocery store, Bennet!

As you might guess, Italians take food very seriously, but the variety of fresh vegetables, meats, and breads they had was impressive.  We found this lovely specimen of Italian cuisine, which is apparently some type of vegetable (at least it was next to the green beans).  In addition to the veggies, they had all sorts of seafood for sale including squid, octopus, mussels, and lobster.  The only area they seemed to lacking was in the selection of chicken and steak available, but we did find some choices and we even found hamburger meat so we're off to a good start.

We also did some browsing in the various stores at the mall, and discovered scarves are very "in" in Italy.  I plan to take advantage of this particular trend!  We  also found this lovely bag during our shopping adventures.  Perhaps the Italians wanted to represent the original "University of Texas" and came up with this design?

We have not met our realtor yet, so we haven't been able to do any real apartment hunting, but we were able to check out the various parts of Lecco and start to identify the area of town we'd want to live.  There is a park the runs around the part of town which borders the lake.  If we could find an apartment close to the lake that would be our first choice, because who wouldn't want to wake up to view like this.  We'll keep you posted as the apartment hunt begins!
